Autoimmune disease is a dysfunction of the immune system causing the body to begin attacking itself. The symptoms can be quite severe and a diagnosis is often life altering. The key to treating autoimmune disease is determining the cause and treating it at the root level. While conventional medications can be helpful in controlling symptoms, this approach will not create healing of the condition and long term management with medication will be required. Our preferred approach is to address the underlying causes so that symptoms can be avoided. While a long term management plan is often used, in many cases, it looks very different than a conventional long term plan.
What can I expect?
When you come to the office, you will be thoroughly evaluated including medical history, physical exam, and necessary lab work or imaging to assist in proper diagnosis and treatment. Once all the information is in, we will discuss treatment options, risks, benefits, and expectations to address the condition at the root cause. Often a combination of short term and long term approaches are taken to not only alleviate your symptoms, but to help heal at the root level to restore balance, function, and quality of life.
